Goldilocks and the Three Bears Pantomime Script Extract
RORY The honey pot. There it is!
RORY points and they rush over to the table.
GOLDI. What’s my music box doing here?
RORY And why are there three bowls of freshly served porridge waiting for us?
BARBARA Who knows. But I’m starving after all that searching! (Aside) Shall we eat the porridge?
Audience response.
No, quite right, it’s not ours. But it does seem to be going to waste…
BARBARA sits down first, at the largest chair in front of the biggest bowl of porridge. RORY joins her in the next largest, then GOLDILOCKS in the smallest. When GOLDILOCKS sits down, she breaks her chair.
GOLDI. Oh no!
BARBARA Look what you’ve done.
RORY It’s not even your house.
GOLDI. I didn’t mean to.
GOLDILOCKS re arranges the broken chair into a pile, and kneels by the table. They tuck their napkins into the collars, and put another on their laps.
BARBARA Time to tuck into this delicious porridge.
BARBARA takes a large spoonful and tries a bit.
Ouch! That’s very hot.
BARBARA turns to ask GOLDILOCKS what her porridge is like, in doing so, she pushes RORY’s head directly into the porridge bowl in front of him. The following section should be performed with a knowing tongue-in-cheek about the messy sequence.
Goldilocks how’s your porridge?
GOLDI. Mum! You’ve just pushed Rory’s head right into his bowl of porridge.
BARBARA Oh dear Rory. That is a shame. Still, how’s your porridge dear?
RORY (Emerging covered in porridge licking his lips) It’s a bit cold actually.
BARBARA Is it? Here, have some of mine, that should warm it up.
BARBARA takes her bowl of porridge and pours it over RORY’s head. She makes sure to scrape out every drop.
There we go. Make sure you get the lot.
GOLDI. Mum! I can’t believe you just did that. It’s gone all over his costume.
RORY blows from his lips and bits of porridge continue to drip down his face.
BARBARA He’ll be all right dear. Now, how was your porridge?
GOLDI. (Taking a spoonful and eating it) Mine’s delicious. It’s just right!
RORY It’s just right, is it?
GOLDI. Yes, that’s what I said. Just right.
RORY Well in that case I think you ought to try some, Barbara. After all it was your suggestion to try the porridge in the first place.
BARBARA Oh no thank you, I’m full up now.
RORY You’re full up?
BARBARA Yes, I’m full up.
RORY After one little spoonful?
BARBARA Yes, I’m totally full.
RORY But I insist.
RORY picks up the bowl, holding it closer to BARBARA BARNUM threateningly.
BARBARA No thank you Rory. I’m full.
RORY But I insist.
BARBARA BARNUM gets increasingly frustrated
BARBARA I’m full.
RORY But I insist.
BARBARA I’m full.
RORY But I insist.
BARBARA I’m full!
BARBARA BARNUM takes out her frustration pushing the bowl back to RORY. It ends up in his face and drips all over him.
