Synopsis

Get ready to ski, slide, and laugh your way through this frosty alpine twist on the classic pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk! In the wintery village of Chillytown, Dame Fräulein Ninety Nein’s Ice Cream Parlour is in crisis because energy bills are soaring thanks to the temperamental Energy Giant. Just when you think events can’t get any worse, Jack’s tricked into giving away his beloved alpine cow Edelweiss, who also happens to be a legendary apres-ski DJ.

With his mother pantomime dame Nellie Nein, the feisty ice cream parlour owner, and a determined snowboarding climate scientist named Greta, Jack must climb the beanstalk to face the mountain-sized menace and save their village from freezing doom. Along the way, meet the hapless villain Herr Kütte, whose evil plans are about as effective as his comedic attempts at intimidation.

Packed with frosty fun, and a catchy patter song celebrating every ice cream flavour imaginable, this alpine pantomime is the perfect winter warmer for all ages. Grab your skis and join the adventure!

HERR KÜTTE enters. A comical german-styled villain with a sharp bob haircut and round glasses.

HERR K. Willkommen losers!

NELLIE It’s you. Bowl-cut.

HERR K. Herr Kütte is my name. As you well know.

NELLIE Hair Dresser that’s right. What do you want?

HERR K. I’ve got a pronouncement.

EDELW. I thought you’d always walked like that.

HERR K. I mean a notice.

NELLIE Oh yes.

HERR KÜTTE retrieves a note from a pocket and unfurls it to read from.

HERR K. Residents of *Chillytown*!

Music Play on

RESIDENTS enter hurriedly.

I bring you exciting news from the Energy Giant. With winter proving colder than ever, heating bills are going up! Best wishes, kind regards, lots of love, kiss kiss, the Energy Giant.

RESIDENTS react in horror.

NELLIE You can’t put up our energy bills. We’re late on last month’s as it is!

HERR K. Such a good sob story Nellie, but this isn’t Britain’s got talent.

NELLIE We know that much. Have you seen our cast?

ENSEMBLE It’s not just Nellie. We’re all behind on our bills.

HERR K. Well, you’d better get ahead!

ENSEMBLE At this rate, I won’t be able to heat or eat.

HERR K. How awful.

ENSEMBLE How does he expect me to watch Coronation Street with no electricity?

HERR K. Not exactly a priority.

ENSEMBLE And Eastenders!

HERR K. Boo hoo.

ENSEMBLE I’ve got an electric car.

HERR K. Enough! The Energy Giant doesn’t care for your sobs or your stories.

ALL Boo!

HERR K. He cares about controlling all of the electricity for the whole village. That is his only goal. And soon, he’ll own all the electricity in the whole world!

Herr Kütte is disappointed.

Hey *Sound Operator*! You said there would be a big echo there. You know, to emphasise my evil power. Let me try again.

Herr Kütte prepares himself for a big impact.

He cares about controlling all of the electricity for the whole village. And soon, the world!

Herr Kütte is let down again.

HERR K. What’s the point in rehearsals? I don’t have time for this.
