Treasure Island Pantomime Script Extract
HALI Well Squire, if you want the Admiral Ben Dover to be saved, we’ll have to work together.
SQUIRE It is the last pub on the docks. I’ll see what I can do. Do you think you can get me the money by the end of the day?
JIM Deal.
HALI But Jim!
(JIM HAWKINS spits on his hand and holds it out to be shaken by
SQUIRE TRELAWNEY.)
SQUIRE I’ll take you at your word. Come on Jane, we’ve an appointment shortly to see how my ships coming along.
JIM A ship!
SQUIRE That’s right. She’s my pride and joy. The Hispaniola.
HALI Isn’t that a cheese?
SQUIRE That’s Gorgonzola.
HALI So it is. Come on Jim, you’d better go and get some more stock if we need to raise the rent by the end of the day.
JIM I’ll clear out all the Carlsberg from *local supermarket*.
MUSIC PLAY ON
(SQUIRE TRELAWNEY, JANE TRELAWNEY and JIM HAWKINS exit. LONG JOHN SILVER enters.)
LONG JOHN Good day madame, might you point me towards the Admiral Ben Dover. I’ve heard it’s the finest pub in Bristol.
HALI And you’d be quite right. Last pub on the docks. I’m the landlady.
LONG JOHN Pleasure to meet you. I’m Long John.
HALI Long John? Was your mother chilly when she named you?
LONG JOHN That’s not why they call me Long John.
HALI Crikey you’ve made me blush. Pleased to meet you. I’m Hali Hawkins.
LONG JOHN Halle as in Halle Berry?
HALI No. Hali as in Halitosis. Halitosis Hawkins.
(HALI HAWKINS’ pronunciation of ‘H’ is particularly breathy and her rancid breath reaches LONG JOHN SILVER on the breeze.)
LONG JOHN No kidding.
HALI I’d better be getting on. Nice to meet you John!
(HALI HAWKINS begins to gather up her things and head off.)
MUSIC PLAY ON
(CLAUDE enters.)
CLAUDE Pieces of seven! Pieces of seven!
LONG JOHN Don’t you mean pieces of eight?
CLAUDE No I mean pieces of seven.
LONG JOHN Why’s that?
CLAUDE The piece of eight, I’ve lost it.
LONG JOHN You’re telling me, bird brain.
CLAUDE Have you found that old traitor Billy Bone-Idle?
(LONG JOHN SILVER drags CLAUDE away from earshot of HALI HAWKINS.)
LONG JOHN Shut it beaky, or I’ll make you walk the plank. We can’t risk being found out.
HALI Everything okay over there?
LONG JOHN Oh yes, perfectly fine Mrs Hawkins. Nothing to see here. (To CLAUDE) I’ll deal with you later.
